
Delhi govt announces ex gratia for Malviya Nagar fire victims
New Delhi, June 4: The Delhi chief minister Rekha Gupta visited the Saket hospital on Thursday to inquire about the well-being of those injured in the Malviya Nagar fire. She met the injured, spoke with their families, and inquired about their treatment from doctors.
Chief Minister announced that an ex-gratia amount of 10 lakh rupees will be given to the families of those who lost their lives in the fire. Financial assistance of 5 lakh rupees will be provided to those seriously injured.
Chief Minister also directed officials to immediately make all necessary arrangements for the respectful transportation of the bodies of those whose relatives live in other states or abroad to their homes. While speaking with the injured hospitalized, the Chief Minister reassured them that the Delhi government stands with them and will provide all possible assistance for their speedy recovery. He personally reviewed the condition of each patient from the doctors and directed them to continuously monitor the treatment process.
Gupta stated that some patients are in critical condition and some are on ventilators. The affected include citizens of Bangladesh, Nepal, Cameroon, Libya, and other countries. He directed the hospital administration to provide the best medical care to all patients and ensure necessary coordination in the cases of foreign nationals.
During his interaction with the injured hospitalized and their families, the Chief Minister was informed that local residents, hotel staff, police personnel, and other volunteers risked their lives to rescue many people. Many were rescued by administering CPR on the spot. The Chief Minister praised all those involved in the rescue work, saying that their courage, promptness, and humanitarian sensitivity in this hour of crisis are commendable. He directed the officials to identify and honour citizens, policemen and employees who made special contributions in the relief and rescue work.
There will be a comprehensive review of fire safety standards
Rekha Gupta said that preliminary information has revealed many serious safety related deficiencies. In many buildings, information about emergency exit routes, fire safety systems and security arrangements is not adequately disseminated to the public. He directed the concerned departments to conduct a detailed investigation of the incident and to conduct a special audit of fire safety standards in the capital’s hotels, commercial complexes and other public buildings. The Chief Minister said that wherever negligence or violation of rules is confirmed, strict action will be taken against those responsible.
Chief Minister stated that this accident was deeply tragic and painful. He paid tribute to those who lost their lives and expressed his deepest condolences to the bereaved families. He also wished the injured a speedy recovery. He stated that the Delhi government stands firmly with all affected individuals and their families during this difficult time. All necessary arrangements for relief, treatment, and rehabilitation will be ensured on a priority basis so that the affected families can receive every possible assistance.
